For the third straight year, hundreds of Deadheads – devoted fans of the beloved American rock band the Grateful Dead – are expected to descend on the Ventura County Fairgrounds for a three-day Dead tribute band festival April 5-7.

The Skull & Roses Festival will feature more than 20 groups performing over three days at the same venue where the Grateful Dead played 11 times from 1982-’87.

Bands performing at Skull & Roses 3 – skulls and roses being classic Grateful Dead iconography – include April 7 headliner Oteil & Friends. Oteil Burbridge is the bassist for Dead & Co., featuring surviving Grateful Dead members Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann and Bob Weir, which is playing the Hollywood Bowl June 3 and 4.

Topping the festival’s bill April 5 is Los Angeles-based Cubensis, which regularly plays Ventura County while the April 6 headliner is Bay Area-based Stu Allen & Mars Hotel.
